SIMS Secondary Schools Wales Newsletter Spring 2016

SIMS Secondary Schools Wales Newsletter Spring 2016

SIMS are constantly upgrading and resolving issues; this term has been no different which has included a brand new update over Easter. Below are the key changes affecting our schools you might notice whilst using the new version.

New Features

Changes to Report Privacy Permissions
Focus | System Manager | Manage Groups
The SIMS System Manager can now view reports that are marked as private and owned by other users. Access to these reports can also be granted to other users so that their ownership can be re-assigned, or for the purpose of updating or deleting the reports.

Enhancements to Report Ownership
Reports | Design Report
It is now possible to search for reports with a specific owner by clicking the Owner folder. If you have the required permissions, you can now delete or re-assign ownership of reports, regardless of privacy status.

Fixes

Attendance
This release includes fixes in the following areas:

  • When editing letter definitions, an error no longer occurs when attempting to edit a letter definition that is currently being edited in Microsoft Word (via Tools | Setups | Attendance Setup | Letter Definition).
  • When running the Persistent Absence report to display student who were persistently absent from school for more than 15% of session, the figure in the No of pupils/students with 11+ absence for term field is now calculated correctly (via Reports | Attendance | Whole Group Student Reports | Persistent Absence Reports).
  • When running the Group Analysis by Vulnerability report, the labelling of each report row now provides a clearer explanation of its contents (via Reports | Attendance | Group Reports | Group Analysis by Vulnerability Report).
  • When viewing a register, missing marks are now displayed only for students who are timetabled for that class (via Focus | Attendance | Take Register).
  • When viewing the Take Register timeline, the rooms assigned to the AM and PM registration groups are now displayed correctly (via Focus | Attendance | Take Register).

Lesson Monitor

  • An attendance mark error no longer occurs when the register is displayed for Guest students who were previously Single registration (via Focus | Lesson Monitor | Edit Marks).
  • When viewing the Take Register timeline, the rooms assigned to the AM and PM registration groups are now displayed correctly (via Focus | Lesson Monitor | Take Register).

Updates will be rolled out automatically to all clients once the PC or Laptop have been switched on. School Technicians will be doing this for all devices in school over the holidays but laptops will need to be powered on early as soon as possible on the first day back to get updated. If there are any issues regarding SIMS Please do not hesitate to contact me.
